Billionaire philanthropist Mackenzie Scott is donating $84.5 million to the Girl Scouts.
The donation was awarded to the US Girl Scouts and 29 local councils that Scott selected.
The donation is the largest awarded to the organization from a single individual.

The Girl Scouts said in a press release that the donation will help the organization fund its programs, advance diversity, and recover from the effects of COVID-19. The donation is the largest awarded to the organization from a single individual, per the release.

Girl Scouts CEO, Sofia Chang, said: “We are so appreciative of MacKenzie Scott’s gift to Girl Scouts. This is a great accelerator for our ongoing efforts to help girls cultivate the skills and connections needed to lead in their own communities and globally.”
She added: “The support from all our donors, including this generous donation from Ms. Scott, is critical in delivering on our work of reimagination and transformation. We’re excited to prove how Ms. Scott’s investment in girls will change the world — because when one girl succeeds, we all succeed.”
Scott is worth $28.4 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Her divorce from former Amazon Jeff Bezos in 2019 made her a billionaire mainly because of her 3% stake in Amazon, per reports.
Since signing the Giving Pledge in 2019, a commitment to give away most of a person’s wealth to philanthropy in their lifetime, Scott has become one of the leading philanthropists in the US.
As of March this year, Scott had given away more than $12 billion.
