Paul Gallen’s boxing rematch against bitter rival Justin Hodges has been mired in more controversy after the Queensland legend hired lawyers to overturn his recent loss.
Gallen defeated the former Brisbane Broncos star by third-round TKO last month, but Hodges claimed his rival illegally punched him while leaning back and pinning him against the ropes.
Gallen announced this week that he had agreed to terms for a rematch on November 23, in what would be the final fight of his boxing career.
However, Hodges is continuing legal action to overturn the decision of the last fight, claiming the loss cost him a million dollars.

Hodges’ lawyers sent a five-page document to the National Boxing Federation of Australia demanding that the result of the duo’s first bout be reversed or declared a No Contest.

Hodges’ legal team says the former Cronulla Sharks great cheated by committing three clear fouls, the most obvious in the second round, when Hodges was cornered on the ropes and hit with an overhand right hand.
Lawyer Daniel Hannay argues that Gallen should have been disqualified for the ‘illegal’ blow to his client’s head after referee Tony Kettlewell told him to stop.

Hannay also argued that Hodges should have been given time to recover from an illegal hit and should not have been ordered to his feet.
Instead, the referee made the ‘stop milking him’ comment and ordered him to immediately resume the fight.
Hodges’ attorneys’ appeal also points to two other moments in the fight where Gallen was warned about hitting the back of his opponent’s head.
Despite the appeal, Hodges insists the rematch with Gallen in November will be different.
Gallen (pictured celebrating his victory) has confirmed that the upcoming fight with Hodges will be the last time he steps into a boxing ring.
“I’m excited for the rematch,” Hodges said.

‘This will be 100 percent my last fight. It’s the end of my four-fight contract with No Limit,’ he said.
