Pep Guardiola has revealed that Kalvin Phillips is making good progress with his recovery from a shoulder problem and could play for Manchester City for the World Cup.
Phillips joined City from Leeds in the summer for £45 million, but has been limited to just one short substitute appearance in the Premier League due to an ongoing shoulder problem.
His place in the World Cup appeared to be in jeopardy after his lack of playing time, but Guardiola has provided a positive update on his rehabilitation and believes the 26-year-old could play for City in the coming weeks.

“He feels very good, his mobility in his shoulder is perfect,” Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s game against Leicester.
“He must avoid contact with his teammates at the moment. If he is fit and I think he can play then maybe he can make a few minutes [before the World Cup].’
Kyle Walker is also on the treatment table at City after undergoing groin surgery earlier this month.
Time is running out for Phillips and Walker to prove their fitness, with Gareth Southgate to name his team for Qatar in just under two weeks, but Guardiola has confirmed the pair have been in touch with the Three Lions boss and are ‘optimistic’ is about making the tournament.

‘They are positive, optimistic, they are in touch with Gareth [Southgate]. I don’t know, hopefully they are ready to be selected,” he added.
Phillips and Walker have 93 caps together and both played a crucial role in the run-up to the final of the European Championship of England last year.
If both are available, Southgate would be a big boost ahead of England’s opening game against Iran on November 21.
