The teen dropped the large knife when the officer was able to stop the young woman, who appeared to be approaching another student.

Authorities initially said the high school freshman “tried to stab several students in the cafeteria, but was unsuccessful,” police said. Frederick’s news report.

They later retracted their statement, saying that “it appears this was an isolated incident between two students in the cafeteria.”

School officer Deputy First Class Dustin Turner was praised for his quick life-saving actions.

“DFC Turner’s swift and decisive actions have prevented students or staff from being injured during this incident,” Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said in a statement,” WTOP News reported.

Jenkins added: “The FCSO SRO program, which is recognized statewide, is proving to be worthwhile again. I am extremely proud of the professional men and women who serve the more than 70 Frederick County Public Schools.”
