Apple is reportedly developing “multiple new external monitors,” which may include a Pro Display XDR upgrade.
The Pro Display XDR is a 32-inch flat-panel computer monitor, released in 2019, alongside the latest version of the Mac Pro.
The higher-end monitor, which boasted 6K resolution, certainly isn’t cheap, starting at $4,999, with the “Pro Stand” to hold it back at $999 alone.
What will consumers get?
The new monitors will include Apple Silicon, according to sources Bloomberg (opens in a new tab)and added that the new pieces of hardware will be less dependent on the resources of the machine that runs them than older models.
The Pro Display XDR could also reportedly launch after the next new Mac Pro, as the monitor runs behind it in the development cycle.
However, no more specific information about when the new monitor might land, nor any additional technical details, were revealed.
We could also be looking at a sequel to Apple’s Studio Display.
The Studio Display, which launched in March 2022 alongside Mac Studio, came with a significantly lower starting price of $1,599.
The kit came with a smaller 27-inch screen, but unlike the Pro Display XDR, it came with a built-in camera.
It’s not just Apple’s line of monitors that is reportedly poised for some very significant changes.
The company is also reportedly ready to make some fundamental changes to the way the Mac Book is produced, which could move production to Vietnam, where it already makes AirPods.
