Oklahoma City, Oklahoma — On December 8, 2022, a uniformed OKCPD officer working an off-duty job was flagged down by a citizen who reported a man had just pointed a gun at him. The citizen pointed out the arrested person, Reginald Davis. The off-duty officer immediately called for other officers to his location. He also heard Davis fire off a shot. Responding officers confronted Davis in a parking lot in the 1800 block of NW 3rd St. and saw that he was indeed armed with a pistol. He was given verbal commands to drop the firearm, at which time he began yelling obscenities at the officers. He further told officers that he was not going back to prison, and they were going to have to kill him.
Officers tried to deescalate the situation by negotiating with Davis, but he refused all commands and advice to drop the pistol and surrender. Officers decided to try less than lethal force and utilized a bean bag shotgun. When he was struck by the bean bag round, Davis immediately raised his pistol and pointed it at the officers resulting in him being shot. Davis was wounded and transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released. After being interviewed by investigators from the Homicide Unit, he was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on six counts of pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. No officers were injured during this event. All four officers have been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
