England’s spectacular comeback victory over Spain in the quarter-finals of Euro 2022 was watched by more than nine million fans on the BBC.
The broadcaster registered a peak of 7.6 million viewers during its broadcast on BBC One last night and there were also 1.5 million streams on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app for the game.
In all, 9.1 million people had a tense showdown, with England falling behind Esther Gonzalez’s opener before equalizing in the 84th minute via Ella Toone and then Georgia Stanway scoring the winner in extra time with a stunning strike.
