Illumination and Universal Pictures’ The Super Mario Bros. Movie grossed $377 million in its worldwide box office debut since opening last Wednesday – making it the biggest animated film opening of all time ahead of Frozen 2 ($358 million) in 2019.

In second place was Lionsgate’s John Wick: Chapter 4 – starring Keanu Reeves – which earned an additional $14.6 million from 3,607 domestic theaters since opening on March 24 for a worldwide total of $259.3 million .
Chad Stahelski’s $100 million R-rated action movie is loved by critics and audiences alike with a shared approval rating of 94% on Rotten tomatoes.
JW4 also features Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, Ian McShane and the late Lance Reddick.
Paramount Pictures’ Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves had a strong second week, landing in third place with $14.5 million from 3,856 theaters domestically, but it only made back $89.5 million worldwide from its original budget of $150 million.
Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s fantasy film PG-13 also scored well with critics (90%) and audiences (94%) on Rotten tomatoes.
D&D is a CG action comedy starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Hugh Grant.
Amazon Studios’ Air debuted at No. 4 with $14.4 million from 3,507 theaters domestically, only making back $20.2 million worldwide from its $90 million budget to date.
