Mother of Kelly Koike whose body was found inside a duffel bag dumped near music festival at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park breaks down in tears – and says she ‘knew something bad would happen’ to her daughter

The mother of a 37-year-old woman whose body was found in a dumped sports bag near a San Francisco music festival has paid a tearful tribute to her daughter – and says she “knew that something something bad would happen to him.”

Roya Koike told local media in Northern California that her daughter, Kelly (Brock) Koike, is the woman police found Sunday night at the iconic park.

Kelly’s cause of death and manner of death have not been shared by police.

Roya said her daughter lived on the streets of San Francisco before her death and suffered from schizophrenia, catatonia and bipolar disorder.

‘I know deep down…that she’s a good girl. She’s got a mess here (showing her head), but she got killed?’ Roya said ABC 7.

No arrests have been made in the suspicious death case as of August 15.

Roya said police called her on Monday to tell her the shocking news.

“Yesterday they found your daughter in a duffel bag. A dog walker found her,’ Roya said, reenacting the conversation with officers.

Police said a passerby called them around 7:30 p.m. to let them know they had found a dead woman near 22nd Avenue and Fulton Street.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Koike’s body stuffed into a sports bag.

The discovery was made a short distance from the three-day Outside Lands music festival, also located in Golden Gate Park.

At first, some investigators wondered if the find could be linked to the massive festival which sees around 70,000 people a day.

It’s currently unclear if Kelly’s death has anything to do with the concert series.

According to the woman’s mother, she graduated from culinary school and worked as a janitor in San Francisco before her death.

As her mental health deteriorated, her livelihood and living conditions deteriorated until Kelly was eventually left homeless.

“Being homeless in the city, I knew something bad was going to happen,” Roya said.

Roya said she feared her daughter was living on the streets, but feared for her own safety when Kelly was home and not taking her medication.

“Very sad, it’s so sad… She was gorgeous, I mean she was beautiful,” Roya told the local outlet.

Residents who live close to where the discovery was made said they were shocked to learn of what had been found near their homes.

‘It’s horrible. It’s a very sad and sad circumstance,’ neighbor Michele Hunnewell told ABC7 News. “And people were just appalled. I mean, I shocked!

Hunnewell said she only found out after officers came to her and asked if she had any home security camera footage she could share with them.

“I was shocked because it’s not that kind of neighborhood normally,” she said.

Another neighbor, Megan Hiatt, told the outlet that she is now afraid to let her child wander around the neighborhood.

“I have a 12 year old who I would normally be happy to let him walk around the park alone. So yeah, completely horrifying…” Hiatt said.

The San Francisco Police Department calls the situation a suspicious death.

The case remains under investigation.
