Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the dumbest of them all?
Right now it has to be Rachel Zegler, the American actress who plays Snow White in Walt Disney’s new live-action remake of her own classic cartoon, itself a version of Grimm’s famous fairy tale. .
The 22-year-old rising star has given interviews, in which she tells anyone who wants to listen to the serious failings of the Disney original.
“It came out in 1937, and it’s very obvious,” she sniffed in a TV spot. “Snow White’s love affair with a guy who literally stalks her is the center of attention. Ha ha! Weird!’
Elsewhere, she said the new film is “not about the love story at all, which is really, really wonderful” and suggested all of the prince scenes could be cut.

“Just because there’s a guy in it doesn’t mean it’s a love story,” she said.
But what about Snow White herself? Surely Rachel isn’t going to leave this elongated, apple-cheeked, prince-disturbing, dwarf-loving disgrace to feminism? Of course not.
“I just want to say it’s not 1937 anymore. Snow White isn’t going to dream of true love – she’s going to dream of becoming the leader she knows she can be,” she said.
So far, so depressing. Rachel Zegler showed that she didn’t just lose the plot – she didn’t even understand the plot in the first place.
And why bother participating in a remake of a beloved story if you feel so bad about it?
“I was scared of the original version. I think I watched it once and never picked it up again. I’m so serious,” she said.
Really? I remember this animated classic as completely magical and I suspect many millions of women would agree.
It’s no secret, even though she wore a little red cape, that Snow White isn’t exactly Wonder Woman. No arguments there.
Yet she was not a malignant influence, nor did she inhibit female ambition, which is evident.

The screenplay for this new Snow Woke version was co-written by Greta Gerwig – who has just been a hit with the Barbie movie – and shot in England last year.
And it’s not just Rachel’s delusions — presumably his feelings mirror the cast and crew’s perspective — that suggests he’ll be so wide awake you’re in danger of choking.
For example, there is no handsome prince – royalty smacks of elitism and inherited privilege, so it was canceled. Instead, we have a character called Jonathan, played by Andrew Burnap. The seven dwarfs have been replaced by seven ‘magical creatures’, and location photographs taken in a Bedfordshire field reveal they are a melting pot of ethnicities and (I think!) genders, with only one real little person among them.
Is it progress, a symbolic gesture, a denigration of the community of little people or none of that? Mark my words, there’s trouble brewing, as Grumpy himself once said.
Part of the problem is that Zegler’s smug wokism not only recognizes the beauty of allegory in literature, the history of Central European folklore, and the artistry of Walt Disney in creating a masterpiece. work – he also refuses to acknowledge that not all women want to be a boss or a leader, determined to chase power and prestige for their own good.
Also, that it is not anti-feminist to want to fall in love with a handsome prince and aspire to a happy life forever.
In fact, what is anti-feminist and condescending is to suggest that those women who desire these things, perhaps becoming wives and mothers and housewives first and foremost, are somehow less worthy of respect than corporate ball breakers and careerists like, well, Rachel Zegler. And that’s too bad, because his own life has been a bit of a fairy tale.
Rachel was just 17 and still in school in New Jersey when Steven Spielberg chose her from 30,000 applicants to play the role of Maria in his recent hit adaptation of West Side Story.

Maybe so, but his hot take seemed a bit callous, given that the strike is mostly about creatives and crew members who are paid exponentially less than actors and actresses.
Who knows what will happen next. Maybe the new Snow Woke will be a shout out and everyone will like it, even if the omens aren’t good. How one longs for the innocent days of Disney, when all Walt wanted to do was thrill and entertain people.
Today, no entertainment is complete without the audience being repeatedly beaten by the cudgel of accuracy while being told what to think of everything by a girl who wants to elevate her own virtue and status by destroying the reputation and legacy of others.
And maybe Rachel Zegler will learn to better deal with being in the spotlight.
I hate to sound condescending myself, but she’s very young and this is all very new to her.
Yet when Rachel began her Disney journey, she couldn’t have imagined that the greatest damsel in distress would turn out to be herself.
