Earlier in the evening, Mogen and Goncalves were captured during a Twitch livestream near a food truck while waiting for an order of pasta carbonara.
A sorority driving service drove the young women home around 1:56 a.m.
Kernodle and her boyfriend Chapin had returned from the Sigma Chi fraternity about 11 minutes earlier.
Two other roommates who survived the attack went to bed around 1 a.m. and did not wake up until the next morning.
Goncalves called her ex-boyfriend Jack DuCoeur seven times between 2:26 a.m. and 2:44 a.m., her sister Alivea said. He was quickly cleared as a suspect.
A 911 call was made at 11:58 a.m. that morning.
At 2 p.m., students were informed of the killings by the University of Idaho, with staff urging them to “shelter in place.”
Monday November 14, 2022: Moscow Mayor Art Bettge said the killings were a “crime of passion,” only to backtrack. He said this theory was one of several being studied.
Tuesday, November 15, 2022: Moscow police called the killings an “isolated, targeted attack” and added that there was “no imminent threat to the community as a whole.”
But angry residents – as well as the families of the four victims – criticized what they called contradictory statements from investigators.
Wednesday November 16, 2022: Moscow Police Chief James Fry revealed that two roommates from the house survived.
He said there were no signs of a break-in, but declined to say who called 911 and why it was made about eight hours later.
Fry angered residents by walking back an earlier assertion that they posed no danger to the community at large. He warned them to “remain vigilant.”
Thursday November 17, 2022: The killings are officially being ruled stabbing homicides by Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt.
She said the four victims were likely attacked while they were sleeping and each suffered multiple stab wounds.
Unfortunately, some victims had defensive wounds – suggesting they had woken up during the attack – but there were no signs of sexual assault.
Sunday November 20: DailyMail.com exclusively reveals a local dog was skinned and filleted three weeks before the murders, sparking fears of a link.
The cops later insisted that wasn’t the case. They said Goncalves’ dog was home at the time of the killings.
November 22, 2022: Police admitted that Goncalves had been followed to a supermarket about a month before the murders, but said they were unable to verify claims that he was a stalker.
November 30, 2022: Kaylee Goncalves’ father, Steve, said his daughter and her friend Maddie Mogen were sleeping in the same bed when they were stabbed.
Latah County Prosecutor Bill Latah said one of the victims was “undoubtedly targeted.”
Hours later, Moscow police contradicted this claim, only to admit that they considered the crime a “targeted” crime the next day.
Six people are ruled out as suspects: a man seen near Goncalves and Mogen at the food truck; the driver who took them home; Goncalves’ ex-boyfriend; the surviving roommates and another student who had left the property several months earlier.
December 5, 2022: Goncalves’ father, Steve, criticized the police’s “absurd” approach to the case, saying Moscow police had been too quick to clear potential suspects and rule out any links to other cases.
December 7, 2022: Cops are making their first appeal for a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra spotted at the crime scene at the time of the murders.
A white Hyundai Elantra was reportedly towed from suspect Bryan Kohberger’s home in Scranton, Pennsylvania on December 30 following his arrest.
December 12, 2022: Steve Goncalves reveals Kaylee had “big open gashes” following the deadly attack.
He called the cops “cowards” for not sharing more information and said his daughter’s injuries were more serious than Maddie’s.
December 18, 2022: New footage emerges showing Goncalves and Mogen hours before their murders, walking around downtown while discussing a man named Adam.
The Goncalves family lawyer later clarified that the Adam in question was a bartender.
December 27, 2022: Other leaked images show Goncalves and Mogen inside the Corner Club bar in Moscow shortly before heading home.
December 30, 2022: Cops say they have made an arrest in connection with the Scranton, Pennsylvania, murders.
The suspect is Bryan Christopher Kohberger, a doctoral student in criminology at the University of Washington.
Kohberger was arrested at his home by SWAT teams and taken to court that morning.
January 5, 2023: Kohberger is extradited to Idaho from Pennsylvania and makes his first appearance in Latah County Court.
He faced tears from family members of his alleged victims as he remained silent during the hearing.
January 12, 2023: Anne Taylor, Kohberger’s lawyer, waived her right to a speedy trial.
May 16, 2023: Kohberger is indicted by a grand jury on one count of burglary and four counts of murder.
