NNA – Caretaker Minister of National Defense, Maurice Sleem, on Wednesday met at his office in Yarzeh, with United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka.nbsp;

Caretaker Minister Sleem affirmed ldquo;Lebanonrsquo;s keenness on UNIFILrsquo;s safety and its continuation of carrying out the tasks assigned to it,rdquo; thanking the international force for ldquo;its sacrifices and for everything it has done and continues to do in order to maintain stability in Lebanon.rdquo;

Minister Sleem also stressed ldquo;Lebanonrsquo;s commitment to international resolutions, especially Resolution 1701,rdquo; underlining the importance of maintaining stability in the south in light of the close cooperation between the army and the UNIFIL.rdquo;

He stressed, quot;The conflict and bloodshed in Gaza must stop and efforts must be made to resolve the conflict in the region on the basis of United Nations resolutions that address the roots of this conflict.quot;

In turn, Wronecka affirmed that the United Nations is committed to helping Lebanon in all fields, especially supporting the Lebanese army and strengthening cooperation and coordination between army units and UNIFIL forces to protect the security and stability of Lebanon.

Wronecka also pointed out that quot;the United Nations is making unremitting efforts to help spare Lebanon the repercussions of the conflict.quot;

In this context, Wronecka briefed the Minister of Defense on the efforts undertaken by the United Nations in this regard.

On the other hand, Minister Sleem met in his office with the Chairman of the National Defense House Committee, MP Jihad Samad, with whom he discussed the current developments.

Sleem later met with former Defense Minister, Yaacoub al-Sarraf, over the countryrsquo;s general situation.
