Trump’s lawyer: ‘We prepare for battle’: The indictment is a ‘total abuse of power’

Donald Trump is ‘preparing for battle,’ his lawyer said Sunday. The former president was seen on a golf course with another member of his legal team before his arrest on Tuesday.

Trump will present himself to officials on Tuesday for arrest based on the indictment issued by the grand jury on Thursday. They were considering the former president’s hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels.

Charges have yet to be announced, but Joe Tacopina said Sunday on ABC’s This Week that the 76-year-old was a ‘tough guy’ and ready to fight to clear his name.

“He’s getting ready for battle,” Tacopina told host George Stephanopoulos.

This is obviously something that we think of as political oppression and I think people on both sides of the aisle think that.

“It is a complete abuse of power.”

On Sunday, Trump was seen on a golf course in Florida with Lindsey Halligan, another member of his legal team.

Tacopina said Trump is prepared for the case.

He’s a tough guy, and he’s someone who will be ready for this fight. He said, “We are ready for this battle.”

“And I’m looking forward to moving this as quickly as possible to clear him – despite what the polls seem to be doing for him.”

Trump has seen an increase in donations since the indictment was confirmed Thursday, with more than $5 million received.

A campaign official told Axios that Trump received $4 million in the first 24 hours and more than $1 million in the second 24 hours.

More than a quarter of those who donated in the first 24 hours were first-time donors.

“Here’s the guy who ran twice for President of the United States,” said Jason Miller, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign.

“There is a whole new group of Trump supporters who are angry at what they see as political oppression.”

On Sunday—Palm Sunday—a frond of leaf was placed at Trump Tower in Manhattan, with a note that read: “God bless President Trump.”

Tacupina said they thought the charges were ridiculous.

This issue is not legally sufficient. Actually, it’s a joke.

The New York-based attorney, whose past clients have included rapper Meek Mill and baseball star Alex Rodriguez, said he didn’t know how Tuesday would turn out.

Trump is the first former president in US history to be criminally charged.

Tacubina continued, “I’ve done millions of trials in that court with famous people and whatnot, but that’s a completely different matter.”

We have a secret service involved. I understand they close the courtroom in the afternoon.

“I just don’t know what to expect to see.”

Tacupina said he hopes Trump can “get in and out of there as fast as he can.”

Trump is scheduled to appear in court at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, and plans to deliver a speech from Mar-a-Lago later that evening.

“For me, as a litigator, as a lawyer, I want this to happen as smoothly and quickly as possible, and to start this fight to get justice back on track,” he said.

Trump accuses Judge Juan Merchant of bias.

Trump alleged that Merchant was picked on by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and “HATES ME”.

Merchan presided over the tax fraud trial last year of the Trump Organization and Allen Weisselberg, its former chief financial officer.

But Tacopina said he doesn’t think Merchan is conflicted.

“I have no reason to believe this judge is biased,” he said.

“I wasn’t up to him about it, so we have to let this process go.”
